The Great Summer Breakfast Menu

When you're suddenly surrounded by a bunch of kids that are bored and hungry and off school for the summer hols - it's time to get your shiz in order!
I must admit - I've had the fear. The absolute fear of entertaining a 12 year-old, 9 year-old and five year-old for a whole six weeks (except for that little week we are spending in Norfolk).
How am I going to adapt? Will the dog survive not having her massive daily walks? When will I fit in any 'me' time? Will I turn into an angry, nagging mum? Probably.
My first gripe started with breakfast. They like to help themselves to cereal - with the only problem being is that they have no concept of volume. We weighed the amount of Shreddies that our 12 year-old was serving out on a daily basis and it was over 100g!
I understand those kids get hungry and cereal by itself doesn't really fill anyone up - so I've devised a cunning plan!
To try to give them more variety of food, my kids will be able to go for a fruit choice first. When they’ve eaten that, they can choose whichever protein is on offer and then, if they are still hungry, they can have carbs.
Each day, I’ll do a combo of 1, 2, and 3 for them:
1. Fruit
• Melon
• Berries
• Fruit salad
2. Protein
• Sausages
• Omelettes
• Kippers
• Bacon
• Shakshouka
• Boiled eggs
• Poached eggs
• Fried eggs
• Mushrooms
• Curried eggs, smoked fish and rice
• Yoghurt with berries
And if they are still hungry they can have:
3. Carbohydrates
• Croissants
• Toast
• Cereal
• Pancakes
• Waffles
• Madeleines
• Overnight oats
• Porridge
It’s a good job my kids like food! Now, how to stop them from asking for ice creams every five seconds when we’re out? 🍦🍦🍦🍨
